STORAGE TIPS
You have carefully chosen each item for your
tree, and each one is a treasure, whether it's a collectors item, or an
adorable keepsake your child made in nursery school. But how do
you safely pack them up after the holidays are over? Here are a
few ideas:

1. Use a large plastic container or a
recycled giant popcorn tin to keep out mice if you are storing them in
an attic or a garage. Whether plastic, tin or cardboard, use a
container with a lid to keep out dust. | |
2. Fill your container with shredded
newspaper, shredded leftover wrapping paper, or packing peanuts.
For the breakables, wrap them carefully in either bubble wrap or tissue
paper. For added precaution, you could then place them into
plastic cups and nestle them into the newspaper, or store them in their
own separate box. | |
2. Use smaller boxes, such as shoeboxes,
within the larger box to sort similar items and keep them together.
For example, I store all my personalized family pieces in the same box.

3. Save the boxes they originally came
in. This is especially helpful with breakables. Then stack
each smaller box into a larger container. | |
4. Tiny items can be stored in egg cartons. | |
5. If you happen to have a box with
partitions, such as a wine box, that can work really well.
Otherwise, you can buy a commercial container with dividers,
specifically designed to store ornaments. | |
6. Always pack the heavy, sturdy items, such
as wood, plastic, or metal, on the bottom, with the most fragile ones at
the top. | |
7. If you have several themed collections,
like I do, keep them in separate boxes, labeled. | |
8. To keep them from getting tangles,
wrap lights around a reel- or even an empty coffee can- and store
extension cords inside! | |
9. Add a final layer of bubble wrap to
make sure nothing will get shaken and broken, click or tape your lid
into place, label the box, and put them somewhere that's not too humid
or hot. | |
There you go- your memories are
safely tucked away until next year! |
